The New York Islanders have signed free-agent forward Steve Bernier to a one-year, $750, 000 contract, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.

The 30-year-old had been invited to Isles' training camp on a professional tryout basis. The signing comes shortly after New York sent Michael Grabner to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for five players.

Bernier had 16 goals and 16 assists over 67 games with the New Jersey Devils in 2014-15, his fourth season with the club.

The Quebec City native has 104 goals and 120 assists for 224 points over 609 career games with the San Jose Sharks, Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers and Devils.

Bernier was selected in the first round, 16th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Sharks.
