The Columbus Blue Jackets announced a two-year extension for defenceman Ryan Murray on Thursday. The deal comes with an average annual value of $2.825 million and takes the 22-year-old through the 2017-18 season.

Ryan Murray is a talented, smart player who has been a very steady performer on our blue line and we are extremely happy to have this deal completed,” said Blue Jacekts general manager Jarmo Kekalainen in a release. “Ryan has earned more ice time, showed steady improvement and contributed in all situations for us throughout the season. We look forward to his continued growth and development with our club.”

Taken second overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft out of the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League, the Regina, Saskatchewan native is in his third NHL campaign. Murray was limited to only 12 games a season ago with injuries, namely a high-ankle sprain.

In 55 games this season, Murray has four goals and 13 assists to go along with 32 penalty minutes in an average of 22:27 a night.
