TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays activated second baseman Devon Travis from the 15-day disabled list and inserted him into the lineup for Wednesday's road game against the New York Yankees.

Travis batted .306 with eight RBIs over nine games during his rehab assignment with single-A Dunedin and triple-A Buffalo. He underwent left shoulder surgery in the off-season.

The 25-year-old native of West Palm Beach, Fla., hit .304 with eight homers and 35 RBIs in 62 games last year with Toronto in an injury-plagued rookie season. He was named American League rookie of the month in April but didn't play after July 28 because of left shoulder inflammation.

Also Wednesday, the Blue Jays optioned switch-pitcher Pat Venditte to the Bisons.
