The Toronto Blue Jays flexed their muscles in split-squad action on Thursday, hitting three homers in a 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at LECOM Park and two more in a 5-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at Dunedin Stadium.

Justin Smoak, Jon Berti and 20-year-old Bo Bichette all clubbed round trippers for the Jays.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 2-4 and picked up his first RBI of the 2018 exhibition season, he also notched his first double.

Joe Biagini started for the Jays against the Pirates and surrendered three runs on four hits, while walking three and striking out two.  His spring ERA now sits at 6.50.

Deck McGuire picked up the victory out of the pen, he tossed two and two thirds innings striking out three and giving up only one hit.

Tim Mayza, Rhiner Cruz and Chad Girado, who earned the save, also pitched out of the bullpen for the Jays.

Third baseman Colin Moran had three hits for the Pirates in the losing cause.

Earlier, Teoscar Hernandez hit his fourth home run of the spring, but it wasn’t enough as the Toronto Blue Jays dropped the home portion of their day to the Rays.

The two-run homer helped Hernandez run his average to .348 for Spring Training.

Jaime Garcia got the start for the Jays and threw four and two thirds innings, giving up two runs and striking out six on his way to a no-decision.

Danny Barnes took the loss in relief, his first decision of the spring, with an ERA of 7.88 in eight games.

Danny Espinosa hit out of the leadoff position for the Jays on Thursday and clubbed his first long ball with the team and second of the spring.  He has hit to a .256 average, with both the Jays and his earlier stint with the New York Yankees.

Roberto Osuna, Ryan Tepera, Craig Breslow and Al Alburquerque also appeared in the game for the Blue Jays.

CJ Cron hit his third homer to pace the Rays’ attack; they were also helped by multi-hit games from Mallex Smith, Daniel Robertson and Johnny Field.
