The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Monday that they will retire Roy Halladay's No. 32 as part of the team's Opening Day ceremonies on March 29 against the New York Yankees.

Halladay was killed in a plane crash on November 7 in the Gulf of Florida.

“Through Roy’s values, pride, work ethic, and perseverance, he epitomized what it means to be a Blue Jay,” Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro said in a statement. “And while his legacy is clear, it goes far beyond the number on his back or his on-field accomplishments, serving as a shining example of how to live a meaningful life and positively impact others.”

Halladay pitched for 12 seasons with the Jays, winning the American League Cy Young Award in 2003. He compiled a 148-75 record in 313 games with a 3.43 earned run average over 2,046.2 innings pitched. The native of Denver made six All-Star appearances with the Blue Jays.

The team also announced they will wear a commemorative patch in memory of Halladay for the duration of the season, beginning with spring training.
