Grant Clitsome will not play hockey this year.

Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice confirmed Friday the defenceman did not pass his physical and isn’t expected to play this year.

Clitsome has had two back surgeries in as many years and his failed physical didn’t come as a surprise to the Jets.

The 30-year-old had four assists in 24 games with the Jets last year. For his career, Clitsome has 15 goals and 71 points in 205 games spent split between the Jets and Columbus Blue Jackets.
