The Winnipeg Jets will likely be without forward Evander Kane for a weekend trip to California with a game against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday and a date with the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings on Sunday.

Coach Paul Maurice said on Friday that he's not expecting the 23-year-old to be available for either game.

Kane collided knee-on-knee with teammate Mark Scheifele early in the first period of Thursday night's 6-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes.

He was assisted off the ice by Dustin Byfuglien and Blake Wheeler, clearly favouring his right leg.

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger confirms that the team is still awaiting the results of tests on Kane's knee to better assess the situation.

The Vancouver native appeared in 63 contests for the Jets last season, felled by significant injury twice. He missed six games with a lower-body injury incurred in late November and then 10 more with a hand injury that became infected into the new year.

In those 63 games, Kane posted 19 goals and 22 assists.
