Gaborik, who scored two goals for Team Europe in the tournament, will miss eight weeks after taking a puck to the foot in Sunday’s win over Team Sweden. The Kings open their season on October 12 against the San Jose Sharks.

“Due to a lower-body injury suffered on Sunday, forward Marian Gaborik has left Team Europe and he will not return," Team Europe general manager Miroslav Satan said in a statement. "Marian was a very important part of Team Europe throughout the entire World Cup of Hockey and though he is leaving our group today, he remains a part of our team.

"We know he will be supporting us in the final against Team Canada and we wish him all the best in his recovery.”

The 34-year-old scored 12 goals and added 10 assists with the Kings last season but was limited to just 54 games due to a knee injury.

Team Europe will play the first game of a best-of-three final against Team Canada on Tuesday.
