Los Angeles Kings forward Carl Hagelin has already been traded once this season and he's well aware that he could be on the move again.

The pending unrestricted free agent was traded to the Kings from the Pittsburgh Penguins in November for Tanner Pearson. With Los Angeles sitting last in the Western Conference, the two-time Stanley Cup champion could be moved again this month as a rental.

“I  think I’ve been in the league long enough to know what’s going on this time of year,” Hagelin told the Los Angeles Times. “I’ve never been traded, myself, at the deadline. But I think if you’re a UFA without a contract for next year, there’s always a chance or risk of getting traded. But right now I’m just focused on playing my best hockey here and trying to climb back with this team.”

Hagelin has one goal and five points in 19 games since joining the Kings, though he believes he plays his best in high-pressure situations. The 30-year-old has 22 goals and 47 points in 121 career postseason games.

“I’ve played a lot of playoff hockey in my career,” he said. “I usually play my best hockey in the second half of the year. That’s just how it is. [But] I like it a lot here. Great guys on the team and we just need to get some wins.”

The Kings have been active in the trade market already, shipping defenceman Jake Muzzin to the Toronto Maple Leafs last month and moving Nate Thompson to the Montreal Canadiens on Monday.

“This situation, more than any other, I know I’m a UFA,” Hagelin said. “I know we’re on a team where guys have already been traded. I think all the other times, I haven’t really been aware of the fact that I’m going to get traded. Here, you never know. We need to start winning, and that’s the bottom line. I definitely don’t look into it too much, because I know if it happens, it happens.”

Hagelin, who has a total of two goals and eight points in 35 games this season, has been traded three times in his eight-year career.
