John Klingberg is getting rewarded for his strong rookie season.

The 22-year-old defenceman has agreed to terms on a seven-year, $29.75 million ($4.25 million AAV) contract extension with the Dallas Stars.

Klingberg led all rookie defencemen in scoring with 40 points (11 goals and 29 assists) in just 65 games.

A fifth-round selection (131st overall) by the Stars at the 2010 NHL Draft started the year with the American Hockey League's Texas Stars but was promoted after recording four goals and 12 points in 10 games.

Klingberg was eligible to become a restricted free agent this off-season.
