New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft apologized to fans on Wednesday for accepting the league's penalties in wake of the Deflategate scandal.

Kraft said he believed accepting the penalties would lead to the NFL exonerating Tom Brady but added, "I was wrong to put my faith in the league.''

Kraft spoke on the first day of training camp for Patriots veterans, including Brady. He called Brady's punishment "unfathomable."

"I continue to believe and unequivocally support Tom Brady," Kraft added.

Commissioner Roger Goodell upheld Brady's suspension on Tuesday after an appeal of Troy Vincent's initial ruling. The NFLPA is now pursuing legal action against the NFL to have Brady's ban vacated.

Vincent fined the Patriots $1 million and stripped them of a first-round draft pick next year and a fourth-rounder in 2017, Kraft described it as the harshest penalty in NFL history.

The Patriots play their first preseason game against the Green Bay Packers on August 13.
