NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Canada's Eugenie Bouchard is done in New Haven.

The 22-year-old Bouchard, from Westmount, Que., was downed in straight sets on Wednesday in the second round at the Connecticut Open by defending champion Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic.

Kvitova, a three-time Connecticut Open winner, needed a little over an hour to take the match 6-3, 6-2 from Bouchard, who was entered in the tournament on a wild card.

Bouchard, ranked 40th, has never beaten the 15th-ranked Kvitova in four career meetings.

The 26-year-old Kvitova, who also won the event in 2012 and 2014, will face Russia's Ekaterina Makarova in the quarter-finals.
