PETERBOROUGH, Ont. -- The Peterborough Lakers scored seven unanswered goals in the second period Friday to defeat the Langley Thunder 9-5 in Game 5 of the Mann Cup.

Peterborough now leads the best-of-seven senior men's lacrosse championship 3-2 and can close out the series with a win Saturday.

Mike Thompson was spectacular in the Peterborough goal, making 43 saves to earn player of the game honours.

Tracey Kelusky scored twice to lead the Lakers, while Shawn Evans, Scott Evans and John Grant each had a goal and three assists.

Shayne Jackson, Athan Iannucci and Garrett Billings each scored once and had two assists for Langley. Brodie MacDonald made 39 saves and was named the Thunder's player of the game.

The Lakers thoroughly dominated the second period, outshooting Langley 23-13 as they blanked the Thunder and took control of the game.

Langley had a power play four minutes into the third period, but Brad Self scored a short-handed goal on a perfect lead pass by Daryl Gibson to restore momentum for the Lakers.

Before the game, it was announced that both head coaches had been suspended for the remainder of the series by the Canadian Lacrosse Association.

The CLA said Langley's Rod Jensen and Peterborough's Jamie Batley had contravened the association's code of conduct in their dealings with drug testing personnel.
