Winnipeg Jets

He's back already.

Forward Patrik Laine will play Friday night against the Anaheim Ducks after skating with the team in the morning, according to TSN's Sara Orlesky.

Jets head coach Paul Maurice didn't rule out the option of him suiting up following practice, but said, "We'll give him the afternoon to make sure it continues to go the direction it's going."

"There's three boxes that have to get checked," Maurice said of Laine playing. "First the doctors, we're sure with this kind of injury that it won't go backwards any more than any other player that got hit. The next would be fitness, and he hasn't been out long enough for that to be a concern.

"The big one is confidence. He has lots of confidence that he's a player tonight."

Laine was originally given a timeline of four-to-14 days on Thursday with a bruise he received from blocking a shot on Tuesday night.

"It was hurting a lot," Laine said Friday of the injury. "I've never had problems with my ankle, so I have no idea how it feels when it breaks or it's serious. There were a lot of things going on though your head.

"Just (tried) to get on the bench, because I'm not going to help the team on my ice by skating with one foot."

Laine took part in the skate wearing a regular jersey and the team shared a video of him taking one-timers.

He said after the skate he has no plans to stop blocking shots despite the scare.

"It's your duty as a player. It doesn't matter if you're playing on the first line or the fourth line, you have to block a shot if you have a chance," Laine said. "Sometimes it's going to hurt. That doesn't matter. It's one for the team."

The 19-year-old is one back of the NHL-lead in goal scoring with 43 goals and 68 points in 73 games this season.

St. Louis Blues

Winger Vladimir Tarasenko will return to the team's lineup Friday night against the Vancouver Canucks.

Tarasenko missed two games due to an upper-body injury.

"It was hard (being out) and sometimes exciting too becuase guys did a really good job," Tarasenko told the team's website on Friday. "It's been awhile since I missed a game, so it was a weird feeling but now I feel good and ready to help the team."

He has 27 goals and 58 points in 71 games this season.

Pittsburgh Penguins

According to Sam Kasan, Matt Murray will be back between the pipes tonight against the New Jersey Devils. The Penguins' netminder returned from injury on Tuesday against the New York Islanders after missing nine games due to a concussion, but had the night off on Wednesday. In 42 games this season, the 23-year-old is 23-14-2 with a 2.83 GAA and .909 save percentage.
