The Toronto Maple Leafs have claimed Tampa Bay Lightning right wing Richard Panik off waivers.

The 23-year-old scored three goals and 10 assists in 50 games with the Lightning in 2013-14.

A six-foot-two, 212-pound forward, Panik has appeared in 75 career NHL games over parts of the last two seasons.

He was originally selected in the second round (52nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Panik has represented Slovakia internationally on numerous occasions, most recently at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. He also appeared in three World Junior Championships for the Slovaks, scoring 15 goals and seven assists in 19 combined games.

The Leafs also assigned forwards Troy Bodie and Josh Leivo to the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies on Thursday.
