NEW YORK, N.Y. - Detroit Lions centre Dominic Raiola has been fined $10,000 by the NFL for unnecessary roughness for a striking an opponent at New England on Sunday.

The play was on a third-and-9 from the Detroit 35 with 57 seconds remaining. He struck the Patriots' Zach Moore.

The league cited him for violating a rule that prohibits "striking, swinging at, or clubbing the head, neck, or face of an opponent with the wrist(s), arm(s), elbow(s), or hand(s)."

The 14-year veteran did not get disciplined for a chop the block he made during a kneel-down at the end of Detroit's 34-9 loss to the Patriots. Raiola said he didn't intentionally try to hurt anybody or try to do anything out of the ordinary on that play, which the NFL deemed within the rules.
