Indians lead ALCS 1-0

 

Top Ninth

Closer Cody Allen came in and got Tulowitzki to ground out, struck out Saunders and got Pillar to ground out to end the game. Indians win 2-0 to take a 1-0 lead in the ALCS.

 

Bottom Eighth

Estrada sits down the Indians in order. Another remarkable performance, but the Jays need to score at least two in the ninth to have a chance.

 

Top Eighth

Donaldson got a leadoff single, but Miller struck out Encarnacion, who was livid with a called third strike, Bautista (his third of the game) and Martin to end the inning. Miller has struck out five of the six Jays batters he's faced.

 

Bottom Seventh

Chisenhall got his third hit of the night off Estrada to start the inning and moved to second thanks to a Crisp sacrifice bunt. Estrada K'd Naquin and Perez flew out to Pillar to end the inning.

 

Top Seventh

Kluber gets Pillar to ground out and is then pulled from the game for left-handed reliever Andrew Miller. Miller strikes out pinch hitters Darwin Barney (Goins) and Melvin Upton Jr. (Carrera) to end the inning. 

Bottom Sixth

Francisco Lindor breaks the scoreless tie with a one-out, two-run home run to centre field. It's his second homer of the 2016 postseason. Indians take the lead 2-0.

 

Top Sixth

After Kluber sat down Bautista and Martin, Tulowitzki got on base with a two-out single before Kluber struck out Saunders to end the inning. 

Bottom Fifth

Chisenhall picked up his second base hit of the evening before Crisp laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Chisenhall into scoring position. Tyler Naquin grounded out before Roberto Perez struck out to end the inning.

INJURY ALERT: Second basemen Devon Travis is forced to leave the game with two outs in the fifth due to his right knee problem. Travis missed the last two games of the ALDS with the injury, but was healthy enough to make the ALCS roster. Ryan Goins will play the rest of the game for the Jays at second.

Top Fifth

Kluber has his best inning of the night, sitting down Carrera, Donaldson and Encarnacion in order.

 

Bottom Fourth

After Lindor picked up the Indians' third hit of the game with a single, Estrada got Mike Napoli and José Ramírez to fly out. 

 

Top Fourth

Saunders picked up his second hit of the game with a one-out single to left then Pillar was thrown out at first thanks to an amazing play by Kipnis. Travis flew out to centre to end the inning. Kluber has thrown 69 pitches. 

 

Bottom Third 

Estrada is looking just as sharp as he did in Game 1 of the ALDS, sitting down the Indians in order in the third.

 

Top Third

Encarnacion smoked a two-out single past the shortstop and then Bautista got on with a walk to once again put two runners on for the Jays. Martin was unable to cash in any runs as he struck out, Kluber's third of the contest. 

 

Bottom Second

After sitting down the first two first batters, starting pitcher Marco Estrada allowed a two-out single to Lonnie Chisenhall before getting Coco Crisp to fly out. 

 

Top Second

Michael Saunders hit a one-out single, the Jays third of the game, followed by a Kevin Pillar walk to put two runners on for a second straight inning. This time Travis, who's playing his first game since hurting his knee in the ALDS, grounded into a double play to end the threat.

 

Bottom First

Leadoff hitter Carlos Santana got on with a bunt down the third base line (with the shift on), but Jason Kipnis grounded into a double play thanks to a nice turn by Troy TulowitzkiFrancisco Lindor grounded out to second basemen Devon Travis to end the inning. 

 

Top First

After Cy Young contender Corey Kluber struck out Ezequiel Carrera on three pitches to start the ALCS, Josh Donaldson laced a single to centre then Edwin Encarnacion hit a double to the right field wall to put runners on second and third.

Kluber struck out Jose Bautista and then got catcher Russell Martin to ground out weakly to first to get out of the inning unscathed. Kluber throws 21 pitches in the first.
