Liverpool, England - Liverpool's quest for fourth place in the Premier League could hit a snag on Sunday when the club welcomes Manchester City to Anfield.

The Reds have not lost in league play since a 3-0 defeat at Manchester United on Dec. 14, but a loss at Besiktas on penalties in Thursday's Europa League clash has left them slightly worse for the wear, especially after 30 minutes of extra time.

The Citizens, who enter the weekend just five points back of first-place Chelsea, also endured a midweek European fixture, but theirs was a home clash against Barcelona on Tuesday.

No travel and two extra days to recover should bode well for City, and Manuel Pellegrini's men will be especially motivated as a win would send them to within two points of Chelsea - the Blues do not have a league match this weekend due to the Capital One Cup final on Sunday.

Liverpool, entering the round in sixth place with 45 points, sits atop the form table with 13 points from its last five games.

The Reds will also be eager to avenge a 3-1 loss to City at the Etihad on Aug. 28, which was just the second match of the campaign.

Manchester United and Southampton can keep the pressure on Liverpool by taking maximum points from their respective matches on Saturday.

United occupies fourth place in the table with 47 points and has the luxury of taking on Sunderland at Old Trafford, a venue at which the Red Devils have taken 31 of 39 points on offer this term.

Southampton, meanwhile, has claimed just one win from its last four outings. The Saints suffered a 2-0 home loss to Liverpool last time out and will be looking to rebound at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Arsenal sits third in the league with 48 points and will close out the weekend on Sunday. The Gunners suffered a humiliating 3-1 home loss to AS Monaco in Champions League action Wednesday, and they will be aiming to exorcise the demons at the Emirates against Everton.

West Ham United will hope to maintain its outside chance of a top-four finish by taking three points from its clash with Crystal Palace at Upton Park on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, Burnley will host Swansea City at Turf Moor, Hull City will travel to the Britannia to take on Stoke City and Newcastle United will attempt to rebound from its awful defeat against Manchester City when it hosts lowly Aston Villa at St. James' Park.
