Daniel Sturridge's injury-ridden season continues.

Liverpool confirmed on Wednesday that the England international incurred a thigh injury in training on Tuesday and would be out for another six weeks.

"Liverpool Football Club today confirmed scans have revealed Daniel Sturridge has sustained a new thigh injury," the team said in a statement.

Sturridge has only appeared three times this season for the Reds, who currently sit 11th in the BPL table and had just returned to full training last week after a calf strain kept him out of action in October. The 25-year-old was first injured this season with a thigh injury incurred while on international duty in September. Sturridge's latest setback is unrelated to his previous thigh problem.

Liverpool has struggled this season without Sturridge and Luis Suarez, who was sold to Barcelona in the summer. The pair were the top-two scorers in the league last year, combining for 52 goals. Raheem Sterling is the top scorer for the club this season with three league goals. Summer signing from Milan, Mario Balotelli, has struggled in his return to the BPL, scoring just once.

The team is back in action on Sunday when it visits Crystal Palace at Selhurst Road.
