Auston Matthews skated for about 20 minutes ahead of Toronto Maple Leafs' practice Sunday.

TSN's Kristen Shilton reported Matthews is skating and stickhandling on his own with a Leafs' trainer at the team's practice facility.

Matthews has missed the team's past four games and has been listed as day-to-day since colliding with teammate Morgan Rielly last Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In other Leafs' roster news, the team has placed defenceman Nikita Zaitsev on injured reserve with a lower-body injury and recalled defenceman Martin Marincin.

Zaitsev blocked a Niklas Kronwall shot in the team's loss to the Detroit Red Wings Friday. He missed almost seven minutes of game time after the block, according to Shilton, but then returned to finish the game.

The Leafs' next game is Tuesday at home against the Carolina Hurricanes.
