Edmonton Oilers

- One could sense just the slightest touch of annoyance from Connor McDavid when he was asked about his teammates stepping up to produce points...again. It’s a subject that the 20 year old has talked about a lot lately.

- McDavid: “We’re a very deep team. I’ve said that before and I’ll definitely say it again, so we’re a very deep team and we have guys that can produce offence; Leon [Draisaitl] and Patty [Maroon], especially,  I've been with those guys all year long, up and down the line up."

- When asked whether he is fulfilling his own expectations of himself concerning his play, McDavid talked about the team’s success: “It does not matter at all. We’re up two-nothing, we’re up two nothing coming home. That’s all that really should matter.”

- Goaltender Cam Talbot expects to see a little more traffic: “I just try to keep playing my game, try to maintain my depth and not let them push me back. I just try to get to the top of that blue any time I can and any time they give me a bump in there, hopefully, the refs will see that. But I’m just going to try to keep getting out, getting in my lanes and, hopefully, find more pucks."

- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins talked about the difficulties of playing against a cagey veteran like Ryan Getzlaf: “I mean, obviously, he’s an experienced guy and he’s been there before and when he really wants to, he can slow the game down and kind of control the pace and it kind of goes in the way he sees the game and his big body. So for me, I got to try and play inside his equipment as much as I can; don’t let him have too much time with the puck."

Anaheim Ducks

- Both teams had optional skates on Sunday, but 16 Ducks players took the ice including Nick Ritchie (illness) and Sami Vatanen (UBI)

- Randy Carlyle said that he has a full contingent of players and they will all skate warm-up, but provided no update on Ritchie

- Carlyle: "As a coach, you’re always considering making changes and putting your best people in place. Like it doesn’t change for us whether it's the first game of the year or this game tonight, we’re going to try and ice the best lineup we possibly have. There’s no saving anybody; we don’t save anybody when we play in the regular season so why would we save anybody now."

- The Ducks coach says his team isn't concerned about work ethic and will look to use the Oilers' home crowd at Rogers Place against them: ”We don’t change the effort, we increase the effort. It’s just we’re looking for results. It’s a results-driven business we’re in and they scored two, we scored one. There’s a good feeling in our group because of the work ethic we provided, the number of chances we created. Now we’re going to come into a somewhat hostile environment and that’s what’s going to be expected. We’re going to use the crowd and use it as a springboard for us. The emotions are going to be high, but we have to stay disciplined and go forward. We’re not looking behind, that’s for sure.”

- Carlyle wants his team to make things more difficult for Cam Talbot in the Oilers' crease: "We felt that there were situations that we didn’t get people to the front of the net and it was too easy for [Talbot] to see everything. I’m sure they're speaking in the same terms over there; get to our goaltender’s feet. Get to the areas at the top of the crease where he can’t see the puck. that’s what Maroon’s out there to do, that’s what Draisaitl’s out there to do. That’s the way the game is played today."
