BALTIMORE - The New York Mets placed struggling right-hander Bobby Parnell on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with right shoulder tendinitis.

Parnell is 1-3 with a 5.59 ERA and one save in 23 games. He last pitched against Pittsburgh on Sunday, allowing four runs, two hits and two walks in 2-3 of an inning.

The reliever yielded six runs over his last two outings while getting only two outs.

"We've got to get his arm 100 per cent before we get him back out there," manager Terry Collins said.

Parnell missed most of the 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery to repair a partially torn right elbow ligament.

New York recalled right-hander Logan Verrett from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill the void in the bullpen. This will be Verrett's third stint with the Mets this season. He's allowed one run over 12 1-3 innings in six games.

"The game today is about your bullpen," Collins said. "Starting pitching and the bullpen. We're hoping (Verrett) can fill that void in the sixth or seventh inning. Otherwise, we're going to run (Tyler) Clippard and (Jeurys) Familia into the ground if he can't do it."

Meanwhile, Collins said "there is a chance" that right-hander Matt Harvey might have to skip a start or two in September because his innings count is high. But he insisted that Harvey — along with Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard, who are in similar situations — "will be OK to pitch the last week and further."

Also, injured third baseman David Wright (spinal stenosis) has played in four rehab games and appears to be moving closer to returning from the DL and playing in the majors for the first time since April.

"He's getting ready to go," Collins said. "When he comes back, he has to be ready to step up. He has to be able to hold his own at the speed at which this game is played here."
