With Major League Baseball’s winter GM Meetings having wrapped up last week, the league's 30 general managers are in the midst of off-season renovations. TSN.ca looks at the day’s hottest rumours as free agent season gets off the ground.

Making an Offer?

The Toronto Blue Jays do appear to be in the mix for 3B Pablo Sandoval. The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo reported on Wednesday the Jays are expected to make an offer to Sandoval within the next 24 hours.

The Jays had reportedly been interested in Sandoval for more than a week but this is the first report expecting the team to make a formal offer to the player.

Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal confirmed the Jays are “in the mix” for Sandoval but outlined the struggles Toronto will face in signing Rosenthal, mainly their policy limiting free agent contracts to five years.

Rosenthal also suggested the Jays, along with the Chicago White Sox, could push for a 3B like Chase Headley if they fail to get Sandoval.

Scherzer Sweepstakes

Represented by Scott Boras, it’s more likely that Max Scherzer will sign in January than in November, but there is still interest in the ace pitcher and former Cy Young winner.

Rosenthal outlines the number of teams that could have interest in Scherzer for Fox Sports.

The list includes the Washington Nationals, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers, and St. Louis Cardinals.

Speaking of the Cardinals, a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says GM John Mozeliak is becoming increasingly aggressive in free agency, lending legitimacy to reports the Cards could be in on Scherzer.

Marlins still spending

The Miami Marlins aren’t done spending money, even after signing Giancarlo Stanton to a record-breaking contract extension.

The Miami Herald reports the team has made a two-year, $20 million offer to Adam LaRoche.

The report also states the team is looking to add a veteran pitcher while Jose Fernandez recovers from Tommy John, with names like Jason Hammel and Justin Masterson being mentioned.
