Angels saying Hey?

Could Jason Heyward follow in the footsteps of Albert Pujols and David Freese and trade in a pair of wings for a halo?

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Los Angeles Angels have expressed interest in the services of St. Louis Cardinals free agent right fielder, Jason Heyward.

In what isn't exactly a robust market for outfielders, Heyward is one of the few impact free agents available. The 26-year-old native of Ridgewood, New Jersey appeared in 154 games this season for the National League Central winners. Heyward hit 13 home runs and 60 runs batted in, batting .293 with a .797 OPS.

Morosi notes that the Angels' incumbent right fielder, Kole Calhoun, was recently the recipient of a Gold Glove, but would still cede the position to Heyward in the event of a signing.

Freak Show?

With a whole host of top-flight starting pitching available on the market including Zack Greinke, David Price, Johnny Cueto and Jordan Zimmermann, Tim Lincecum's name has been lost in the shuffle.

Having recently undergone hip surgery, the Freak is ahead of schedule in his recuperation and Yahoo!'s Jeff Passan reports that the 31-year-old is eager to show that he still has a lot left in the tank.

The two-time NL Cy Young Award winner has struggled in recent seasons, having lost velocity on his once-potent fastball and not posting a sub-4.00 ERA since 2011. Passan says that Lincecum will have a whole host of potential suitors - if they feel he has sufficiently recovered from his surgery.

Lincecum is scheduled to return to Colorado, where his surgery was performed, next month for the next step in the rehabilitation process. Though teams might be interested in converting him into a reliever, Lincecum still wants to start.

Off the Mark?

Jerry DiPoto's remake of the Seattle Mariners began in earnest with the dismissal of manager Lloyd McClendon and the installation of Scott Servais and continued earlier this month with a six-player deal with the Tampa Bay Rays and Monday's signing of catcher Chris Iannetta.

Next up for the new general manager could be the jettisoning of an outfield power bat.

Trumbo, 29, was acquired this past June in a deal with the Arizona Diamonbacks. He finished last season with a combined 22 home runs and 64 RBI, batting .262 with an .OPS of .759 in 142 games with both teams.

While the former All-Star's prodigious power is well known (Trumbo is twice a 30-home run hitter), so is his tendency to strike out far too often and his less-than-stellar glove.

Still, Trumbo is set to earn $9 million this year - the final season on his current deal - and should attract interest.
