Bulking up in the Bay Area?

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the San Francisco Giants met with free agent closer Aroldis Chapman on Wednesday. 

The Giants bullpen struggled against the Cubs in the NLDS, blowing two leads in the ninth inning of games three and four.

On the other side, Chapman pitched 15.2 innings in the post-season for Chicago with a 3.10 ERA and 21 strikeouts. 

Jon Morosi of Fox Sports is also reporting that the Giants have also met with other free agent relievers.

Bautista open to play anywhere? 

When talking to Morosi on Wednesday, Jose Bautista's agent Jay Alou said the 36-year-old is open to playing any position. 

Holliday destination 

Soon to be free agent outfielder Matt Holliday is taking offers, but seems to be intrigued by one of his former teams according when talking to Casey Stern of the MLB Network on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old had a poor 2016 with the St. Louis Cardinals with a slash line of .246/.322/.461, but still had some pop with 20 home runs in 426 plate appearances. 

 

McCann on his way out? 

It looks like the New York Yankees may be able trade catcher Brian McCann according to New York Daily News' Mark Feinsand.

With the emergence of rookie catcher Gary Sanchez, McCann has become expendable.

The 32-year-old hit 20 home runs and drove in 58 runs in 130 games for the Bronx Bombers. 

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Astros are the number one destination. 

McCann has the final say however, as he has a full no-trade clause. 

 

Market for Holland strong

Jon Heyman of the MLB Network is reporting that the Red Sox, Giants, Cubs and Rays are all interested in the services of free agent closer Greg Holland

Holland missed the entire 2016 recovering from Tommy John Surgery. After the season he was released by the Kansas City Royals.

The North Carolina native was instrumental in the Royals 2014 post-season run that saw them lose in seven games to the San Francisco Giants.

The 30-year-old then missed the playoffs in 2015 where the Royals went on the win the World Series. Wade Davis then took over the closer role for Kansas City. 

 

Could McCutchen be moved? 

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Pittsburgh Pirates discussed a trade with the Nationals featuring star centre fielder Andrew McCutchen in July. 

With the Pirates potentially shopping McCutchen during the trade deadline last-season, Rosenthal believes it's likey Pittsburgh might move the all-star this off-season. 

The 30-year-old Florida native had a down year in 2016 hitting .256/.336/.430 as the Pirates failed to make the post-season for the first time since 2012. 

 

Dozier out the door? 

Morosi also reports that the Minnesota Twins recieved interest in second baseman Brian Dozier.

Dozier had his best season with the Twins in 2016. He posted career highs in HR (42), RBI (99) and BA (.268).
