Cream of the crop

Nomar Garciaparra
2006 TSN.ca Rating: 92.78
2006 Team: Los Angeles Dodgers
Age: 33
2007 Team: Los Angeles Dodgers (2-year, $18.5 million)
Notes: Great hitter and can play multiple positions but should spend the majority of his time at first. Had resurgence with the Dodgers and looked like a two time batting champion. Has trouble staying off the DL but it's hard to overlook what he is capable of when healthy.

Sean Casey
2006 TSN.ca Rating: 74.28
2006 Team: Pirates/Tigers
Age: 32
2007 Team: Detroit Tigers (1-year, $4 million)
Notes: Went from the lowly Pirates to one of the best clubs in baseball and got a taste of the playoffs. Lacks power for a big guy but gets his hits and is tough to sneak a third strike past. Not much of a defender.

AB R HR RBI OBP AVG
397 47 8 59 .336 .272

Shea Hillenbrand
2006 TSN.ca Rating: 77.24
2006 Teams: Blue Jays/Giants
Age: 31
2007 Team: Los Angeles Angels (1-year, $6.5 million)
Notes: His departure from Toronto wasn't pretty and he has had troubles while on other clubs in his career. He can hit and generates decent power but is hurt by the fact he doesn't walk much. His D at first isn't bad.

AB R HR RBI OBP AVG
530 73 21 68 .313 .277

Craig Wilson
2006 TSN.ca Rating: 72.37
2006 Team: Pirates/Yankees
Age: 29
2007 Team: Atlanta Braves (1-year, $2 million)
Notes: Lots of pop but not a great guy for average and he does tend to strikeout (122 in 2006). He is valuable because he can play first, the corner outfield spots and get behind the plate if his team is desperate.

AB R HR RBI OBP AVG
359 53 17 49 .314 .251
