AL Championship Series
Game 4 was postponed from Oct. 17 to Oct. 18 because of rain. Game 5 was moved to Oct. 19, which was originally scheduled as an off day.
The New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers have previously met twice in the Division Series, with the Tigers winning both series. They have never met in the Championship Series.
In 2011 the ALDS went five games with the Tigers holding on for a 3-2 victory in the decider, to advance to the ALCS. The Yankees caught a break in that series as 2011 AL Cy Young winner and MVP Justin Verlander's Game 1 start was cut short thanks to a rain delay. However, the Tigers' other arms would carry the load in addition to Verlander's Game 3 win in the team's series victory.
In 2006 the Tigers captured the series in four games, eventually advancing to the World Series where they would lose to the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Yankees enter the series with a 6-4 season series advantage.
New York last won the World Series in 2009, it was their 27th title.
The Tigers have not won the World Series since 1984.
