The MLB free agency period is underway. Teams and players alike are looking to make big splashes during the off-season.

Cespedes getting five-year deal?

Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that "there is a growing sense" free agent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes will command a five-year deal upward of $130 million. The Giants, Nationals and Dodgers have been linked to Cespedes with "speculation mounting" that the Yankees are also involved in talks to sign Cespedes. His former team, the New York Mets were comfortable giving the all-star a four-year deal in the $100-$110 million range, but "there is less clarity" as to whether they are willing to add another year. Cespedes had a strong season in 2016 for the Mets, batting .280 with 31 home runs and 86 RBI in 132 games.

Puma notes that if the Mets do lose Cespedes, Jose Bautista or Dexter Fowler are potential fallback options.

Chapman would "love to be a Yankee again"

Free agent closer Aroldis Chapman tells Ray Negron that he would "love to be a Yankee again," citing how thankful he was for the organization to take a chance on him after his domestic abuse allegations back in Dec. 2015. The Yankees traded for Chapman in the offseason from the Cincinnati Reds and proceeded to send him to the World Series champion Chicago Cubs at the July 31 trade deadline. The left-hander was very effective in 2016 for both the Yankees and Cubs, converting 36 of 39 save opportunities with a 1.55 ERA and 0.86 WHIP, striking out 90 batters over 58 innings pitched.

Rockies want to work out an extension with Gonzalez

According to Thomas Harding from MLB.com, Venezulan journalist Wilmer Reina is reporting that the Colorado Rockies and all-star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez are interested in signing a new extension. Gonzalez has one year left on his current seven-year, $80 million deal. The 31-year-old is coming off a solid campaign in which he batted .298 with 25 home runs, 42 doubles and 100 RBI in 150 games.

Castro nearing decision? Twins still in the mix

Mike Beardino reports that although free agent catcher Jason Castro may be nearing a decision on where he will be signing, the Minnesota Twins are in the mix and "still engaged" with talks with Castro's agent, Fred Wray. The Atlanta Braves and Tampa Bay Rays have also been linked to the 29-year-old. In 113 games during 2016, the one-time all-star batted .210 with 11 home runs and 32 RBI.
