BRONX, New York (Ticker) - The New York Mets on Friday activated left fielder Cliff Floyd from the 15-day disabled list and optioned outfielder Lastings Milledge to Class AAA Norfolk.
Floyd, who was placed on the DL on June 10 with a sprained left ankle, is starting and batting fifth against the New York Yankees on Friday.
After a 2005 campaign in which he batted .273 with 34 home runs, Floyd has struggled this season. The 33-year-old is hitting just .238 with six homers and 19 RBI in 51 games.
Milledge, considered the top position prospect in the organization, batted .233 (20-for-86) with three homers and 12 RBI in 24 games for the Mets.
While the 21-year-old showed his potential, he also drew criticism for exchanging high-fives with fans after his first major league home run, being late for a game and misplaying two flyballs this week against the Boston Red Sox. He was 0-for-13 in his last four games.
