OAKLAND, California (Ticker) - The "Big Hurt" is all better.
After missing the last 13 games with a strained right quadriceps, Oakland Athletics designated hitter Frank Thomas was activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday.
The A's also activated second baseman Mark Ellis, who has sat out the last 26 games with a broken right thumb.
A five-time All-Star and two-time American League MVP, Thomas is hitting just .239 in his first season with Oakland. He does have 16 home runs and 39 RBI in 55 games, including 10 homers and 24 RBI over his last 27 contests.
Ellis is batting only .226 with three homers and 11 RBI in 44 games this season, but has posted a .995 fielding percentage.
To make room for Thomas and Ellis, the Athletics optioned infielder Mike Rouse and outfielder Doug Clark to Class AAA Sacramento. Rouse hit .292 with two RBI in eight games with the A's, while Clark posted a .167 average in six contests.
