The Toronto Blue Jays announced the signing of international free agent shortstop Gustavo Pierre.

Pierre, 16, hails from La Romana, Dominican Republic and stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 180 pounds.

"We are excited about this signing. Gustavo is a very, very good athlete with a lot of tools and a polished bat for a 16-year old. He is the kind of player you notice when you walk in a ballpark," said Marco Paddy, Director of Scouting, Latin America Operations.

Pierre will attend the Blue Jays academy in Dominican Republic.
