The Milwaukee Brewers, who are flush with Canadians in the front office, with general manager Doug Melvin and assistant general manager Gord Ash, have added a Canadian hitter to their roster.
On Wednesday, the club claimed 26-year old catcher George Kottaras off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.
Last season Kottaras served as the back-up to Jason Varitek and spent time as the personal catcher to knuckleballer Tim Wakefield.
He became a spare part when the Sox added Victor Martinez during the season, and with both Martinez and Varitek signed on for 2010, there was no roll for him in Boston.
Last season, Kottaras hit .237 with one home run and 10 RBI in 45 games.
