St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired catcher Kelly Shoppach from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for a player to be named later.

Shoppach appeared in 89 games for the Tribe last season and hit .214 with 12 home runs and 40 RBI, while getting hit with a pitch an American League-high 18 times.

The 29-year-old Shoppach had led all catchers with 21 home runs in 2008 and his 32 blasts over the last two seasons are tied with Minnesota's Joe Mauer for second most in the AL behind the Angels' Mike Napoli.

Over parts of five seasons with the Boston Red Sox and Indians, Shoppach has hit .241 with 43 home runs and 141 RBI.
