The Toronto Blue Jays announced prior to their opening game on Friday that they have declined the three option years on the contract of second baseman Aaron Hill.

Hill will play out the last guaranteed year of his deal before the Jays make any decisions on his future.

"We're not exercising the options, but we have the ability to have him back for (two) more years," Toronto general manager Alex Anthopolous told reporters before the game. "We'll make that decision at the end of the year."

The decision was made to give Toronto a chance to analyze Hill's performance going forward after he battled hamstring injuries last season and batted .205.

The three-year option on Hill's deal was due to pay him $8 million in each of 2012 and 2013, and $10 million in 2014.
