TORONTO -- Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista was not in the lineup for Tuesday night's home game against the Oakland Athletics.
Jays manager John Farrell said Bautista is attending to a personal matter and is expected to miss the entire three-game series.
Bautista will likely return to the team Friday for the opener of a three-game road series against the Los Angeles Angels.
The Toronto right-fielder led the major leagues with 54 home runs last season.
He's off to a good start this year. Bautista hit .455 and belted two home runs in Toronto's season-opening three-game series against the Minnesota Twins last week.
Jays centre-fielder Rajai Davis returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing two games with a right ankle injury.
