For the second straight week, and sixth time this season, the New York Yankees hold top spot in the TSN.ca MLB Power Rankings.
The Yankees have lost back-to-back games, but that comes on the heels of a seven-game winning streak, so they remain ahead of the surging Philadelphia Phillies and the Boston Red Sox.
While Eduardo Nunez was a capable fill-in, the Yankees also welcome Derek Jeter back to the lineup this week, as Jeter continues his quest for 3,000 hits.
This week's big move up came for the St. Louis Cardinals, who won five of seven games and are expected to activate Albert Pujols from the disabled list, 16 days after he suffered a broken bone in his wrist. Prior to getting hurt, Pujols was on a tear, rebounding from a slow start to the season and putting up numbers more in line with his usual production.
In any case, the Cards move up from 14 to five this week.
Five wins in six games also lifted the Chicago White Sox from 21 to 16, as they have climbed to .500 and now sit 3.5-games back in the AL Central.
Losing five of eight games, the Toronto Blue Jays slipped from 13 to 15 this week.
