TORONTO -- A delay in the arrival of new Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Kelly Johnson forced the club into a roster move Wednesday.

Toronto acquired Johnson from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday in exchange for second baseman Aaron Hill and infielder John McDonald.

Johnson had to return to Arizona to get his passport and won't be available until Thursday's series finale with the Kansas City Royals at Rogers Centre. As a result, Toronto recalled outfielder Darin Mastroianni from triple-A Las Vegas.

The 29-year-old Johnson batted .209 with 18 home runs, 49 RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 114 games this season with the Diamondbacks.

Mastroianni has posted a .273 average with 25 extra base hits and 14 stolen bases in 68 games with Las Vegas.

The 25-year-old led all Blue Jays minor leaguers last season with 104 runs scored, 158 hits and 46 stolen bases.
