TORONTO -- Brett Lawrie's season is over.

X-rays revealed the Langley, B.C., native fractured his right middle finger and he was placed on the 15-day disabled list prior to Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Angels at Rogers Centre.

The 21-year-old third baseman took a ground ball off the finger while fielding during batting practice and he left the field. He later had X-rays, which revealed the fracture.

On May 31 when he was with triple-A Las Vegas he suffered a fractured left hand after being hit by a pitch.

Lawrie batted .293 with nine home runs and 25 runs batted in 43 games since making his major-league debut on Aug. 5.

Edwin Encarnacion took his place at third base on Wednesday and David Cooper became designated hitter.
