The Toronto Blue Jays added a bat at the expense of an arm on Thursday.
The team announced via Twitter that they have claimed outfielder Matt Tuiasosopo on waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
To make room on the 40-man roster, left-handed pitcher Luis Perez has been released.
Tuiasosopo, 27, appeared in 81 games with the Detroit Tigers in 2013, hitting seven home runs and adding 30 runs batted-in. He also posted an average of .244.
The Diamondbacks signed him to a one-year contract earlier this month.
Perez, 29, appeared in just six games with the Blue Jays in 2013, posting an 0-1 record with a 1.20 WHIP and a 5.40 earned-run average.
He missed the majority of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery, returning to the Jays in September.
