The Toronto Blue Jays claimed outfielder Cole Gillespie off waivers from the Seattle Mariners on Saturday.
They also designated outfielder Kenny Wilson for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
The 30-year-old Gillespie has played in 34 games with Seattle this season, recording a .254 batting average with one home run and five runs batted in. In four seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs and Mariners, Gillespie has appeared in 112 games, hitting .233 with four homers and 25 RBIs.
The American was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the third round of the 2006 amateur draft.
Toronto will make a corresponding move to the 25-man roster once Gillespie reports to the team.
