The Pittsburgh Pirates appear to be pushing for another postseason appearance as they've picked up Canadian relief pitcher John Axford from the Cleveland Indians, according to Ken Rosenthal.
Axford, 31, has struggled this year in Cleveland, posting a 2-3 record with a 3.92 ERA over 49 appearances. He is also 10/13 in save opportunities and lost his job as the Indians' closer earlier this season.
Axford signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract prior to this season.
Over 330 career games with the Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals and Indians, the Simcoe, Ont. native has a 24-22 record with a 3.37 ERA and has 116 saves.
