MINNEAPOLIS - Miguel Cabrera did not start for the Tigers on Sunday after he aggravated a sore right ankle in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.

"He had a little soreness coming in, but as Miggy has shown he can play through a bit of soreness," manager Brad Ausmus said.

Cabrera appeared to tweak the ankle when he awkwardly stepped on first base. Detroit is off Monday before opening a three-game home series with the New York Yankees.

"The idea of having two days off in a row should help," Ausmus said.

Don Kelly is starting at first base for the Tigers.
