Scouting Report

AssetsIs versatile enough to play first base and either corner outfield position. Has good power and plate discipline, so he takes his walks as well. Also has good pedigree as the son of former MLB outfielder Andy Van Slyke.
FlawsIsn't nearly as athletic as his father used to be. Must prove capable of hitting right-handed pitching with consistency at the big-league level in order to see a fair amount of at-bats.
Career potentialVersatile backup with a little upside.
