LOS ANGELES -- Chris Denorfia and the San Diego Padres have agreed to a two-year contract that runs through the 2014 season.

The team announced the deal Wednesday.

The 32-year-old outfielder was batting .299 with six homers and 30 RBIs going into Wednesday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was 8 for 25 (.320) as a pinch-hitter.

General manager Josh Byrnes says Denorfia has "proven to be a valuable and versatile player" for the Padres over the last three seasons.

Denorfia homered Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium on the first pitch from NL Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw.
