ARLINGTON, Texas -- Yu Darvish felt no discomfort after throwing in the bullpen for the first time since skipping his previous turn for the Texas Rangers because of neck stiffness.

Darvish, who is 16-9 with a 3.90 ERA, says he has rested and undergone treatment on his neck since being scratched about 2 1/2 hours before Tuesday's game.

"When I make my next start, I don't think it's going to be a factor." Darvish said through a translator.

Manager Ron Washington says Darvish is still on track to start Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels.

Right-hander Mike Adams had an MRI Friday and was diagnosed with a mild cervical strain.

Adams said before Friday's game against the Los Angeles Angels that he will be sidelined indefinitely. Adams, who has been battling soreness in a muscle near his right shoulder, gave up three solo homers in the eighth inning of Texas' 9-7 victory over Oakland on Thursday.

He originally felt tightness in the area during an outing against Cleveland on Sept. 11. Texas' primary eighth-inning reliever returned on Sept. 19 and has made four appearances since then.

Adams said his arm felt like it "weighed an extra five pounds" on Thursday. He is 5-3 with a 3.27 ERA in 61 appearances.

"What's important is not only doing what's best for myself, but what's best for the team also," Adams said. "I don't think me going out there is good for anyone."

Rangers manager Ron Washington said right-handers Koji Uehara and Alexi Ogando will handle eighth-inning duties while Adams is out.
