(Sports Network) - Having already locked up a spot in the playoffs, the Atlanta Braves can set a major league record Sunday if they can beat the New York Mets.
The Braves have won 22 straight games started by Kris Medlen, who will take the mound today. Medlen's only loss this season came in relief. The right- hander, in his first full season following Tommy John surgery, threw seven innings in a no-decision against the Marlins on Tuesday.
It's also expected to be an emotional day for third baseman Chipper Jones, who will play his final regular season home game. Jones, who will retire following the playoffs, will head to Pittsburgh along with the rest of the Braves to finish the regular season.
The Braves trail the NL East-leading Washington Nationals by four games with four left to play.
Jenrry Mejia starts today for the Mets. The righty makes his third start of 2012. On Monday, he tossed five shutout innings against the Pirates.
The Mets are only 6-11 against the Braves this season and 2-6 at Turner Field. Atlanta has won 11 of the previous 13 meetings between the NL East foes.
Houston Astros at Milwaukee Brewers
(Sports Network) - Right-hander Mike Fiers makes his fourth attempt at a 10th victory Sunday when the Milwaukee Brewers close out a three-game series with the visiting Houston Astros at Miller Park.
The 27-year-old, a native of Hollywood, Fla., got to 9-7 on the season with a 6-3 defeat of the St. Louis Cardinals on Sept. 8 in St. Louis, but has since gone 0-2 in three appearances while watching his earned run average swell from 3.05 to 3.55.
He's opposed by 21-year-old righty Jordan Lyles, who faces the Brewers for the sixth time in his 45th big-league appearance.
The last two meetings came in August - first against Fiers in the aforementioned Aug. 1 game in Milwaukee and ended for Lyles after five innings in which he allowed nine runs on nine hits.
Milwaukee's win, coupled with the St. Louis Cardinals' extra-inning loss to the Washington Nationals, has the Brewers four games off the pace for the National League's final wild card spot. Both teams have four games remaining.
Colorado Rockies at Los Angeles Dodgers
(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Dodgers went all in for a playoff push when they made a deal in late August to bring both Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett to town.
While Gonzalez is heating up at the plate, Beckett gets a chance to improve his club's playoff chances on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies.
Beckett and Gonzalez were acquired from the Red Sox on Aug. 25 along with Nick Punto and the injured Carl Crawford. Beckett has pitched to a 3.16 earned run average in six starts since the deal, but is only 1-3 in that time.
The right-hander is 0-2 in his last four outings and is coming off a loss at the San Diego Padres on Tuesday. It was another tough-luck outing as Beckett yielded two runs -- one earned -- on five hits and two walks, striking out seven in a 2-1 decision.
Jorge De La Rosa will close out the set on the mound for Colorado, making his third start of the season after missing 16 months of action due to Tommy John surgery.
The 31-year-old lefty allowed five earned runs in 3 2/3 innings of a loss on Sept. 20 to the San Francisco Giants in his season debut, then faced the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday and did not get a decision.
