NEW YORK -- Yankees ace CC Sabathia has had arthroscopic surgery to remove a bone spur from his left elbow.

Sabathia was operated on Thursday by Dr. James Andrews on Thursday in Birmingham, Ala. The Yankees expect Sabathia to fully recover before the start of next season.

Sabathia had two trips to the disabled list this year -- a strained left groin that kept him out from June 24 to July 17 and an inflamed left elbow that sidelined him between Aug. 8 and 24.

The 32-year-old left-hander was 15-6 with a 3.38 ERA during the season and 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in three playoff starts.
