Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Detroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez is listed as day-to-day after suffering a cut on his right thumb that required eight stitches.

Andy Dirks took Martinez's place in the lineup as the designated hitter for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays.

The injury occurred when Martinez caught his thumb on a metal bolt on the team's bat rack. The cut happened after an at-bat in Sunday's series finale against the Yankees.

Martinez is 3-for-21 through six games this season.
