UFC 150: Henderson vs Edgar II fight-by-fight breakdown

Lightweight champion Benson Henderson successfully defended his title with a split decision win over Frankie Edgar at UFC 150. In other action, Donald Cerrone defeated Melvin Guillard via knockout and Jake Shields won by unanimous decison over Ed Herman.

TSN.ca provided a fight-by-fight breakdown of all the action.

Main Card:

Benson Henderson (15-2) vs. Frankie Edgar (14-2-1)

Round 1:

Fighters with an intense staredown in the middle of the ring as they touch gloves and things get underway. Both willing to keep things standing in the first couple of minutes. Henderson with a couple of leg kicks and Edgar looks to counter with punches. Henderson lands a leg kick and Edgar goes down, but scrambles to his feet. A welt developing on Edgar's calf as a result of Henderson's leg kicks. Henderson looks for a guillotine as the fight goes to the mat, but the horn sounds and Edgar survives. Round 2:

Henderson goes right back to attacking Edgar's left calf with his leg kicks. Edgar lands a solid right hand and Henderson goes down and Edgar looks for a choke. Fighters in the clinch as Henderson looks like he has recovered. Edgar bleeding from his nose as the horn sounds to end the round. TSN.ca Scorecard: Edgar (10-9)

Round 3:

Henderson looking to go upstairs with kicks in the opening minute. Edgar responds with some kicks of his own. Fighters trading shots throughout the round, but nothing significant landing. Very close round, could have gone either way. TSN.ca Scorecard: Edgar (10-9)

Round 4:

Henderson with a couple of inside knees and a straight jab to open the round. Edgar takes Henderson down and looks for a choke with Henderson up against the fence. Henderson gets out of it and the fighters go back to trading shots on their feet. Another close round, but Edgar may have squeaked it out. TSN.ca Scorecard: Edgar (10-9)

Round 5:

Henderson gesturing to Edgar to engage him in the middle of the ring at the end of round four, we'll see if that leads to fireworks in the fifth. Edgar backs Henderson up with a nice shot and he falls backwards, but gets up quickly. Edgar continues to land some nice counters and looks to be getting the better of the exchanges. Henderson looks frustrated as he doesn't seem to be able to land anything solid. Under one minute as they begin to look for a finish. Henderson with a late kick to the head as the bell sounds and it will be left in the hands of the judges. TSN.ca Scorecard: Edgar (10-9)

Henderson wins by split decision at 5:00 of the fifth round.

Donald Cerrone (18-4, 1 NC)  vs. Melvin Guillard (47-11-3, 1 NC)

Round 1:

Crowd comes alive as the fighters touch gloves and meet in the centre of the octagon. Guillard lands a huge left hook and Cerrone is staggered. Guillard landing more shots as Cerrone is just looking to survive. Cerrone starts to regain his senses and lands a huge left kick to the head and follows it up with a big right hand and Guillard hits the mat face down. Referee steps in to stop it.

Cerrone wins by KO (Punch) at 1:16 of the first round.

Ed Herman (20-7) vs. Jake Shields (27-6-1)

Round 1:

Herman lands a shot to open up the fight and looks for an early takedown. Shields denies him and forces Herman down against the fence. Herman is able to work his way up and the fighters remain in the clinch. Herman looking to land punches from the inside, while Shields looks for submissions and takedown opportunities. Round ends with fighters in the clinch. TSN.ca Scorecard: Herman (10-9) 

Round 2:

Fighters immediately tie each other up against the fence as the round begins, but Shields gets a takedown. Shields gains side control and looks for a kimura. Shields is unable to lock it in, but remains in side control and starts to drop short punches and elbows on Herman. Shields able to keep Herman on his back for much of the round as the horn sounds. TSN.ca Scorecard: Shields (10-9) 

Round 3:

Shields wraps Herman up in the clinch early in the round. Herman denies Shields' takedown attempt. The fighters trade punches and Shields takes Herman down with a double-leg takedown. Shields with some short punches and elbows in side control. Shields gains a mount with two minutes left in the round, but Herman with some solid defence and forces Shields back into full guard. Herman again finishes the round on his back as the horn sounds. TSN.ca Scorecard: Shields (10-9)

Shields wins by unanimous decision at 5:00 of the third round.

Yushin Okami (27-7) vs. Buddy Roberts (12-2)

Round 1:

Fighters looking to keep things on the feet in the opening minutes. Roberts with a couple of nice strikes and Okami looks for the takedown. Okami takes Roberts' back from a standing position and takes him down. Roberts with some good intial defence from his back. Okami not landing much, but now gains side control. Okami moves to full mount and now takes Roberts' back, who is covering up, as Okami unloads from behind. Roberts is saved by the bell, as Herb Dean looked to be close to stopping it. Round 2:

Roberts lands a solid left hand to open the second. Okami again takes Roberts' back and takes him down. Okami again gains a full mount and starts reigning down punches as Roberts turns over and covers up. Dean steps in to stop it.

Okami wins by TKO (Punches) at 3:05 of the second round.

Justin Lawrence (4-0) vs. Max Holloway (5-1)

Round 1:

Fighters start by feeling each other out in the first minute, as not many punches being thrown. Both fighters trading kicks and punches with nothing big being landed. Lawrence gets hit with a kick below the belt. The referee deems it to be accidental and gives Lawrence time to recover. Lawrence with a cut above his right eye -- likely from a Holloway left hook. Lawrence lands some good shots, but is hit with a low knee below the belt and shows some pain in his face as the round ends. Close round, both fighters landed some nice shots. TSN.ca Scorecard: Holloway (10-9)

Round 2:

Both fighters seem comfortable to keep the fight standing up. Holloway controlling the centre of the octagon with Lawrence circling around him. Lawrence showing a good left jab and hook. Has his second takedown attempt of the round stuffed by Holloway. Holloway backs Lawrence against the cage with a nice inside knee and follows it up with a big left hand to the body. Lawrence slumps to the mat and Holloway lands some big shots and the referee steps in to stop it.

Holloway wins by TKO (Punches) at 4:49 of the second round.

Preliminary Card:

Dennis Bermudez (9-3) vs. Tommy Hayden (8-1)

Round 1:

Bermudez with the early single-leg takedown. Hayden able to hold him off and get to hs feet. Hayden hits Bermudez with a big knee as Bermudez went in for a takedown. Bermudez shaken, but recovers and gains control of Hayden on the ground. Hayden gets up again and Bermudez lands a solid front kick and locks in a standing guillotine. Hayden taps and the referee steps in.

Bermudez wins by Submission (Standing Guillotine) at 4:44 of the first round.

Jared Hamman (13-4) vs. Michael Kuiper (11-1)

Round 1:

Kuiper pressing forward, while Hamman moves on the outside. Fighters trade punches and Kuiper gets the first takedown, but Hamman gets to his feet. Kuiper landing some blows and Hamman looks wobbly on his feet. Hamman still throwing punches though, but Kuiper landing the harder more punishing shots. Round ends with Hamman barely making it back to his stool. Appears to have a leg issue. TSN.ca Scorecard: Kuiper (10-9)

Round 2:

Hamman tells his corner he has torn a muscle in his leg. Looked to come as a result of a big leg kick by Kuiper. Fighters back to trading punches and Kuiper puts Hamman down with a nice combination. Hamman manages to get to his feet, but he appears to be out on his feet. Kuiper lands a right uppercut, Hamman goes down and the referee steps in to stop it. Hamman stays down on the mat wincing in pain, grabbing his injured leg. 

Kuiper wins by TKO (Punches) at  2:16 of the second round.

Ken Stone (11-3) vs. Erik Perez (11-4)

Round 1:

Perez lands a huge right hand counter on an exchange in the middle of the ring right at the outset of the fight. Perez follows it up with some big shots on the mat and Herb Dean steps in to stop it.

Perez wins by TKO (Punches) at 0:17 of the first round.

Chico Camus (11-3) vs. Dustin Pague (11-7)

Round 1:

Pague comes out throwing with some good combinations. Camus catches a Pague kick and takes him down. Pague throwing elbows from the bottom and looks to secure a triangle. Camus lands a few shots from on top as the round comes to a close. TSN.ca Scorecard: Pague (10-9)

Round 2:

More of the same as Camus takes a shot in standup, but shoots Pague and takes him down. Camus landing more short, quick shots from on top. Round ends with Pague on top. TSN.ca Scorecard: Camus (10-9)

Round 3:

Fighters go to the mat early, but this time Pague has control of Camus from behind. Camus escapes Pague's control and once again has Pague on his back. Camus lands some short punches and elbows from on top. Camus starts to land some harder blows and gains back control and looks for a rear-naked choke, but Pague slips out of it as the round comes to a close. TSN.ca Scorecard: Camus (10-9)

Camus wins by unanimous decision at 5:00 of the third round.
