Frankie Edgar won't have to wait for a featherweight title shot.
Edgar will replace the injured Erik Koch and face Jose Aldo for the UFC featherweight title at UFC 153.
"Thanks to all of the @UFC fans for all of the support. And thank you to @danawhite & @lorenzofertitta for the opportunity," Edgar tweeted out early Friday morning.
An undisclosed injury has forced Koch to withdraw from the bout.
Edgar (14-3-1), the former lightweight champion, is coming off back-to-back losses to the current titleholder Benson Henderson. Their most recent bout ended in a controversial split decision at UFC 150 on August 11.
Aldo has made three straight UFC featherweight title defences over Mark Hominick, Kenny Florian and Chad Mendes. Also (21-1) is considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world and has only lost one bout in his MMA career.
